Meet Montrelle “Montie” Green—beauty boss, brains and business.
Montie is a licensed Cosmetologist, Certified Project Management Professional, and the powerhouse behind VELVET Wax & Beauty. With over 10 years in the beauty and hair care game, she built VELVET with one simple but iconic mission: helping men and women feel like they have “skin so smooth, they think it’s VELVET.” And she did exactly that. What started as a waxing and sugaring studio in 2014 has grown into two brick-and-mortar locations and a mobile waxing truck. Yes, wheels and all.
A true educator at heart, Montie has trained 50+ certified Sugarists and teaches advanced hair removal techniques along with business and project management courses. She’s always dropping gems on entrepreneurship, beauty, and leveling up professionally.
Outside the salon, Montie is also that girl in the federal space. She’s spent a decade as a federal contractor in communications and management and currently serves as a Project Manager at the National Defense University, supporting one of the nation’s leading institutions in cyber education for military and civilian leaders.
Montie earned her BA in Public Relations from Howard University and her MBA from the University of Maryland. She’s also a former published beauty writer whose work has appeared with brands like Johnson & Johnson, Essence Magazine, and McDonald’s, and across platforms including Essence, Styleblazer, and MadameNoire.
Originally from Hampton, VA, Montie is a proud member of Federal City Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.

Since opening its doors in Historic Downtown Hampton, VA in March 2016, VELVET has served thousands of men and women’s hair removal and skincare needs.
